The local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) are expected to be benefiting at least 30 percent of funds from International NGO’s, following the new regulations that have been gazetted by Government.
The new law also gives NGO’s opportunity to register directly with the NGO Regulatory Authority (NGORA), unlike the past where they were supposed to go through several offices to get registered.
This was revealed on Tuesday in Blantyre by NGORA Chief Executive Officer, Edward Chileka Banda during a review meeting with representatives from different NGO’s.
Banda said the new regulations will help facilitating capacity building for local NGO’s.
“This particular regulation aims at facilitating capacity building for local actors, for local NGO’s, because we noticed that there’s been over dominance of international NGO’s and it becomes difficult to build capacity of local NGO’s in times of need” he said
On behalf of International NGO’s, Country Director for Gift of the Givers Organization, Shelifa Mia believes they will not struggle to cope with the new regulations, since they have been working in line with it before.
“This is not anything new, we have been doing it with NGO’s previously. We are now glad that it’s now being put into law” she said
