A young lady named Bridget Chimaliro, 21, who resides in Lilongwe-Ntandire, has been granted a full scholarship by Maranatha Private Academy.
The opportunity arose after her Facebook comment praising the school caught the attention of the owner, Dr. Ernest Kaonga.
Bridget’s comment, made on a post by the Makosana page appreciating the uniform for Maranatha Girls Academy students, expressed her desire to wear a similar uniform to proudly represent the school.
She jokingly asked whether it was a crime to wear another school’s uniform.
Upon discovering Bridget’s comment, Dr. Kaonga, the managing director of the academy, was delighted by her appreciation and aspiration to wear their school uniform.
As a result, he offered the form 2 student a full scholarship, which includes coverage for tuition fees, uniforms, books, and all other expenses until she completes her secondary education.
Dr. Kaonga expressed his happiness at finding Bridget’s comment and his belief that she deserves this opportunity.
He hopes that she will make the most of it and fulfill her dream of wearing a Maranatha uniform.
He also mentioned that discussions are underway with Bridget’s guardians to finalize the scholarship agreement for their ward.
It’s worth noting that Maranatha Private Academy has been providing secondary education opportunities to both boys and girls from various backgrounds, especially those in need, in support of the government’s efforts to advance education.
In June 2022, the management of Maranatha Private Academy pledged to grant full scholarships to 40 female students from the Shaping Our Future Foundation (SOFF) and other schools, following a courtesy call on Malawi’s first lady, Monica Chakwera, who serves as SOFF’s board chairperson.
