I am tired of small-mega battles of “kuthana” – Mumba resigns as MCP NEC membe
Minister of Trade Vitumbiko Mumba has resigned as the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) National Executive Committee (NEC) saying he is tired of small-mega battles of ‘kuthana’.
Writing on his official Facebook page, Mumba said he has, however not resigned from the party.
“It will help me focus on isues that matter than man made small-mega battles aimed at “kuthana”. It is just a waste of time and I no longer have time for such.
“Let those that have majored in that type of primitive politics focus on that while I focus on my Constituency. I have one reason for this decision but there is a secondary one (point No.2 in this post) that has strengthened my resolve.
“You cannot have a NEC whereby 80% of co-opted members are those that never expressed interest to contest during Convention. They never paid nomination fees but they are now in NEC. Majority, over 80%, of those that paid hefty nomination fees and heavily campaigned, left out completely.
“Instead someone preferred mostly handclappers who cannot even question anything, opembedza mafano. No wonder most primaries have ended up in chaos as only one man is calling the shots while the rest fear to interrogate his decisions. This is Politics Over People which I don’t agree with. It is a matter of values and principles.
“Small-mega lies by senior NEC members. I will explain this in detail after my Court Case as I don’t want to comment on matters that are in court. As a party member, I remain loyal to the party (not 3 individuals and their surrogates masquarading as the party) and will campaign for Dr. Chakwera wherever possible. Am thankful to him for considering me to serve in NEC. At the moment, my focus is on the Constituency,” he said
