Hill Climbing Club (HCC), Malawi’s fastest growing fitness and healthy living club, now has a sponsor, Kongwe Vintage Cottage and Centurion Guest House. The group, which has chapters spread across the country, in Zambia, Tanzania, and presense in South Africa, UK, US Seattle, clinched the deal prior the 5th of April 2025 when they braved a 35km walk and run in Dowa district.

Speaking during the official announcement at the Kongwe Vintage Cottage at Dowa boma, where members enjoyed the official after event reception, sponsor and director Mr. Amos Tizora said he was happy to connect and be family with the hiking club.

“This is good because we are in the hospitality business, and HCC hikes across the country. It gives us as an indigenous business chain the opportunity to serve Malawians better and also contribute to Malawi’s attempts to achieve healthier and better lives in the country, as far as the Agenda2063 is concerned,” he told the hikers that draws membership from across a spectrum of private and business, public and uniformed, CSOs and individuals from across Malawi and beyond.

National Coordinator, M’theto Lungu said HCC as a club is open to all, in terms of membership and those who wish to come and support us. At HCC fitness and healthy living is a lifestyle. The sponsorship will therefore help us go a long way in opening spaces for participation in personal and group fitness, and in spreading across the globe the awareness and beauty that Malawi offers the world in terms of hospitality service provision, tourism, and adventure. In that way we also contribute to revenue collection that the sporting and tourism sector, and privipally the country, needs,” he told Atlas online.

The hikers, that came from as far as Mangochi, Blantyre, Kasungu, Salima, Lilongwe and Dowa started as early as 5:30am at Dowa Turnoff Total filling station on the Lilongwe – Kasungu M1 road, passing Dzaleka Camp and Dowa boma all the way to the finish line at the Dowa Turnoff on the Lilongwe – Salima M14 road.

A member based at Dowa boma, Bisai Mtayamanja, expressed satisfaction at the conduct of the event and appreciated the new sponsorship.

“We don’t take this new opportunity for granted. Mr. Tizora and his wife joined us at the reception in solidarity and promised to work with us as we join the world in beating especially non-communicable diseases that claim lives at an alarming rate. I and am sure all HCC members are happy with this arrangement,” he said.

The Tizora family also runs hospitality joints at Lumbadzi, Mponela, Area 49, Area 36 and Falls Estate in Lilongwe.
