Airtel Africa’s 2025 Sustainability Report has revealed that the company has registered significant progress in closing the digital divide, promoting financial inclusion, and supporting underserved communities through strategic investments in connectivity, human capital, and sustainable practices.

Released on Tuesday, the report highlights the company’s renewed commitment to transforming lives by expanding access to essential digital services, fostering inclusive growth, and promoting environmental stewardship across its operations in its 14 markets across Africa.

Airtel Africa Chief Executive Officer, Sunil Taldar says this year’s achievements demonstrate how technology can be a powerful driver of gender equality.

“This year’s achievements, from connecting 2,176 schools through the UNICEF partnership to reaching 44.6 million Airtel Money customers with near-gender parity, prove that the power of technology is a catalyst for gender balance. At Airtel Africa, we believe to not only expanding networks but we’re also building bridges to education, financial security and sustainable growth for Africa’s next generation,” said Taldar.

Among others, access to reliable network connectivity among underserved communities has reached 81.2% across Africa, up from 80.4% in 2023/2024, supported by 36,159 4G infrastructure sites, over 15,300 of which are in rural areas.

The leading telecommunications and mobile money services provider continued its investment of $670 million in network expansion and modernization to enhance speed, coverage, and capacity.

In addition, the number of data customers has grown by 14.1% compared to 2023/2024, while Airtel Money now serves 44.6 million customers, 44.2% of whom are women reflecting a 6.2% increase from 2023/2024. The company has also connected 2,176 schools to the internet free of charge, up from 1,201 in 2023/2024, and has successfully recycled 93% of its total waste, marking a 3% improvement over last year.

The leading telecommunications and mobile money services provider has however reaffirmed its commitment to reducing its environmental impact by investing in renewable energy solutions and promoting responsible waste management.
