Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have announced the termination of their Head Coach, Meke Mwase’s contract with immediate effect.
In a statement released by the Club, the decision made to terminate his contract was difficult but necessary for the Club.
“This decision follows a period which Mr. Meke Mwase has been absent from his duties since November 4, 2024, without notifying the Club or obtaining an approval,” reads the statement in part.
Since losing to Silver Strikers in the Airtel Top 8 Cup semi-final, Mwase has been absent from his duties and the club has been trying to reach out to him but he has not been responding.
Mighty Mukuru Wanderers are planning to install an interim technical panel until the end of the season to ensure continuity and maintain a competitive edge and further announcement regarding coaching situation will be made in due course.
Reports suggest that Mighty Mukuru Wanderers fans and official allegedly critized Mwase after defeat to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in the TNM Super League and Silver Strikers in the Airtel Top 8 Cup.
“Mwase was accused of poor tactics when Wanderers lost to Bullets. He was fed up with all these accusations and decided to stay away from the club without informing any of the board members,” reports Times Sport.
Currently, Mwase is not responding to Yassin Ousman, Technical Director’s call, “Well, I have tried to call him a couple of times and either I cannot reach him or he does not take the calls,” he said.
Mwase who signed a one-year performance based contract is pondering quitting the Club after recent poor results which saw the team suffering three defeats in four matches.
Mwase took over the helm from Burundian gaffer, Mswazirimo Ramadan who resigned after the team’s 2-0 defeat to Mzuzu City Hammers earlier this season and he has managed to steer the team into the title race as they are just four points behind Silver Strikers.
However, the results against Karonga United, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers saw Mwase missing the targets which were injected into his contract when he was handed the permanent job in September.
The former Flames Coach was asked to win at least three trophies by the end of season but after a defeat to Silver Strikers in the semi-finals of the Airtel Top 8 Cup saw him missing the targets as they now have to battle for TNM Super League and Castel Challenge Cup.
Meke Mwase is not available for comment on his absence but he has already handed over the keys for the Club’s Car which he was using. Under Bob, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers hammered Chipoka United 10-1 and Mighty Waka Waka Tigers 5-0 in Castel and Super League respectively.
