Life had been unbearable for a 65 year old, Ketie Mbalu who stays with her two little grand children in Group Village Headman Poya, Traditional Authority Chitera in Chiradzulu district.

The months of June to December 2025,saw her barely attending to her farm work or do her tomato business at the nearby Mbulumbuzi Market as she had to spend over five ours at the neighbouring village trying to fetch water.

“Some people vandalised all our four boreholes in our village. We hear they sell the spare parts in some major markets in Blantyre. This left us with no choice but to scramble for water at a borehole in neighbouring village”, said Mbalu.

She added that the challenge has seen other women resort to fetch water from unclean sources such as shallow wells or from streams, putting their lives and their entire households to various water born diseases.

The struggles the elderly Ketie Mbalu has been going through to access potable clean water are typical challenges thousands of women and girls in communities where Pacific Limited has been repairing broken boreholes have been going through.

Founder and Managing Director for Pacific Limited, Faisal Aboo has disclosed in interview that the film embarked on the innitiative to improve livelihood of vulnerable households in the country by easing their water accessibility challenges

“As a company we were compelled to embark in the borehole rehabilitation innitiative in 2015 after realising how thousands of Malawians were struggling to access clean water. We realised that the challenge was hampering productive of many Malawians”, said Aboo.

He further disclosed that currently, the company has fixed over 9000 boreholes in the country indicating further, demand for clean and potable water in the country remains huge calling for other private players to replicate his company’s gesture.
