On a calm Tuesday morning, Samson Muthali of John Munthali Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kampingo Sibande was all smiles as farmers admired his crops.
According to him, this was the first encouraging farming season since he began farming over two decades ago.
“It was a struggle, I was just farming because I just wanted to have something to push me in terms of food. Otherwise, I used to harvest less than 10 bags of maize on my two-acre farm. Along the way, it got worse because farming became expensive, with the ever rising prices of inputs such as seed and fertilizer, we were slowly losing hope,” he said.
He added; “we started abandoning our farms for piece work in estates for survival”. However, Munthali said he started regaining interest in farming three years ago when news about other new innovations started gaining momentum in the country.
“I started trying these innovations, such as use of organic manure and others, but I was not satisfied. I wanted to try more. That’s when I went for Eagle Nano Urea liquid fertilizer this farming season.
“I chose this fertilizer because it is cheap, each bottle costing K60 000 per 500ml bottle and is enough for an acre in top dressing, which means with K120 000 I was done with my two acres. That was attractive, I didn’t think otherwise,” he said.
Four months down the line, Munthali could not believe the outcome.
“Everyone is amazed with how my maize is. This year’s harvest will not only surpass all the years I have been in farming, but it will redeem me from poverty. I will have bumper yields from my small maize field,” he said.
Eagle Nano Urea liquid fertilizer is produced by India Ray Nano Research Centre and it is locally distributed by Paramount Holdings Limited.

Eagle Nano Urea is an innovation that is set to transform farming, enhance productivity, and empower farmers across Malawi.
Speaking on the sidelines of a field day, Paramount Holdings Limited head of business development and strategy, Hrushika Jash Ghedia said the fertilizer is a game changer that will ease farming costs for Malawian farmers.
“We started distributing Eagle Nano Urea liquid fertilizer September 2024. Since then, the feedback from our farmers has been positive. Farmers who are using the product are reporting up to 17-20 % increase in crop yields than using granular Urea.
“The advantages of this fertilizer are many, such as lower costs due to reduced transport and application needs, simpler usage and faster plant response and improved environmental outcomes due to reduced chemical runoff.
“Further, it requires significantly lower quantities per application, reduces nitrogen loss in the soil, enhances nutrient absorption and promotes eco-friendly and sustainable farming.
“As Paramount Holdings Limited, we want to lead Malawi into a new era of farming defined by science, sustainability, and self-reliance. Eagle Nano Urea isn’t just a product; it’s a movement towards transforming agriculture at the grassroots,” she said.
Eagle Nano Urea is a liquid fertilizer developed using nanotechnology – a process that breaks nutrients down into nano-sized particles, allowing plants to absorb nitrogen up to 80-90 % more efficiently than granular urea.
“This is exactly the kind of innovation we need to drive the MW2063 agenda. It’s smart, sustainable, and delivering real results for our farmers. It is an exciting development because one container of the liquid fertilizer can replace up to 77 containers of chemical fertilizer bags, significantly reducing transport, labour, and foreign exchange costs up to 98%,” she said.

Director of Crop Development in the Ministry of Agriculture, Elidah Kazira praised Eagle Nano Urea for its contribution to soil health, crop yields, and farmer profitability.
Kazira assured the company of the ministry’s assistance to help Eagle Nano Urea to reach up to more farmers for better yield with its affordability in cost.
Jash Ghedia said the new product is available at almost 50 Paramount Commodities shops across the country like in Dedza, Dowa, Karonga, Mangochi, Mzuzu, Mzimba and soon it will be available in other retail shops.
“Our dream as Paramount Holdings is to put a manufacturing plant of Eagle Nano Urea and other fertilisers in Malawi. We invite all farmers, cooperatives, agri-entrepreneurs, and development partners to join us in revolutionising agriculture in Malawi. The future is green, the future is smart, and the future is Nano,” he said.
