The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has announced that Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre remains closed for elite football matches, directly affecting the FDH Premiership clash between Mighty Wanderers and Karonga United scheduled for 25 April 2026.
In a statement released on 24 April 2026, FAM said preliminary inspections showed that the stadium does not meet the required standards for top-tier competitions and therefore cannot host matches until it is fully certified under Club Licensing requirements.
“Kamuzu Stadium remains closed for elite matches as it does not meet the required standards. No matches will be allowed at the facility until a full inspection is completed and certification is granted,” FAM said in the statement.
As a result, the Wanderers versus Karonga United fixture must be relocated to an alternative approved venue.
“All affected fixtures must be moved to approved venues with immediate effect.
Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action in line with FAM statutes,” the statement added.
FAM further emphasized that the closure is part of efforts to ensure safety and professionalism in domestic football.
The decision means Mighty Wanderers will not enjoy home advantage at Kamuzu Stadium for their opening league fixture, as attention now shifts to confirming a new venue for the match against Karonga United.
