The Malawi Health Equity Network (MHEN) has called on parents and guardians across the country to ensure that all eligible children receive the second round of the oral polio vaccine, scheduled from 27th to 30th April 2026.
In a press statement released in Lilongwe, MHEN Executive Director George Jobe said the vaccination campaign is part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Health and Sanitation to protect children under the age of 10 from polio and strengthen immunity in communities.
Jobe commended parents who took part in the first round of the campaign, saying their cooperation played a significant role in reducing the risk of polio transmission in Malawi.
He further stressed that children who missed the first round should seize this opportunity, while those already vaccinated still need follow-up doses to complete the full protection schedule.
MHEN also appealed to traditional leaders and religious institutions to support the campaign, emphasizing that every child has the right to be protected from preventable diseases.
The organization further encouraged full cooperation with health workers who will be conducting door-to-door vaccination activities during the exercise. The network has since called for unity in the fight against polio, saying a polio-free Malawi is achievable if every parent and stakeholder plays their part.
