TEVET Authority, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, is set to hold the first ever Malawi Skills Competition for youths aged 17-22 years old from all technical colleges.
According to a statement signed by TEVETA Corporate Head of Affairs Lewis Msasa , the competition aims at enhancing quality and recognition of technical and vocational skills in the country.
Msasa said the first phase of the competition will take place at the regional level and will run concurrently in Mzuzu, Lilongwe, and Blantyre from March 11 to 21 with the national finals to be held in July, 2023 in Lilongwe.
He said a total of 129 trainees are expected to participate in the competition and distinguished experts in different trades have been engaged to formulate tasks for the competition.
“Apart from promoting skills, the competition aims to identify areas for improvement in the teaching of technical and vocational programmes. Skills competitions are a platform where practitioners in various trades from specific sectors can showcase and promote their cognitive, technical, and interpersonal skills,” Said Msasa.
Msasa further said this year’s competition will also serve as a springboard for Malawi’s participation in international and global skills contests.
“The main thrust of the competition is to promote knowledge, competencies, innovation, technologies, and enhance the recognition of skills globally,” he added.
