A window of opportunity has opened for talented young Malawian footballers as an Italian scout has arrived in the country to conduct 2 day trials.
The Scout Raffaele Paulino a former Technical Director of Italian giants Ac Milan and Inter Milan now operating under Worldwide Soccer which has partnered local Non-Governmental Organisation Mpira Mmudzi Mwathu is expected to carry out the trials at Bingu National Stadium on Friday April 7 and Saturday April 8.
The trials are targeting kids aged 10-21 years.
Speaking after Paulion’s arrival, Mpira Mmudzi Mwathu Director Chimango Munthali said the trials provide an opportunity for talented young footballers to expose themselves to the international market.
According to Munthali the trials have been organised in a way that all the kids that will show up will compete at equal footing.
“unlike in the past where these trials were only open to kids that have paid participation fee, this year we are doing it differently as we have partnered with the Football Association of Malawi to provide us with those talented kids but cannot be able to raise the participation fee. So those kids will undergo the trials for free”, said Munthali.
In his remarks Paulino speaking through a translator said the country has huge potential of producing talented footballers that can play at the highest level if such initiatives like the one he is set to undertake are fully utilised.
“Who said Malawi cannot produce a Christiano Ronaldo? This country can also produce players like Christiano Ronaldo through initiatives like these ones”, said Paulino.
This is not the first the first time that World-wide Soccer is carrying out trials in the country as last year the company also partnered with Silver Strikers Football Club for a similar initiative.
