Kamuzu Barracks Football Club forward Zeliat Nkhoma has become the first player to be awarded K100,000 after being voted Super Sakuwa Steel Limited Man of the Match, a day after the iron sheets manufacturing company fall into partnership with the Military side.
Nkhoma scored twice on Saturday to help Kamuzu Barracks beat debutants FOMO FC 3-1 at the Civo Stadium, before later picking up the Player of the Match awards from both the League sponsors, TNM plc and club partners Super Sakuwa Steel limited.
In an interview, Zeliat Nkhoma hailed the coming in of Super Sakuwa as the motivation factor to his excellent performance against FOMO FC.
Nkhoma said “I’m extremely happy for winning these awards today and helping my team to collect first three points this season. I must also express my gratitude with the coming in of Super Sakuwa, its a big a motivation to us and you could see that everyone worked very hard today”
Zeliat Nkhoma scored the only goal of the first half in the 26th minute when he headed home a Christopher Mtambo’s cross to give Kamuzu Barracks the lead in a one sided first half affair that saw the home side threaten the FOMO FC goal on many occasions without being able to apply the finishing touch for the most part.
Just seconds after the recess, the hosts extended the lead through Olson Kanjira in what looked like an own goal from FOMO FC goalie Henry Mwandira who diverted Kanjira’s cross into his own net.
The visitors reorganized themselves just after conceding the second goal. The game had an open feel to it as there was plenty of action at both ends and it was FOMO’s substitute Hassan Hussein who reduced the deficit on 55th minute with a solo goal.
Nkhoma completed his brace in the 80th minute when he collected the ball at the mid and run swiftly before smashing home from the edge to the box to make it 3-1 and registered his third goal of the season.
It was Kamuzu Barracks’ first win of the season to the delight of Super Sakuwa Steel Limited Representative Confidence Namadzunda who watched the game.
“its a happy moment for us and the team, you know they started with 1-1 draws against Wanderers and MAFCO before we came in and their first game with us has ended in an emphatic win which gives us hope that our motivation to the players will help the team to achieve greats” said Namadzunda.
A 3-1-win saw Kamuzu Barracks move sixth with five points, while FOMO FC have three points on 10th.
