By Erik Chiputula:

The Regional 5 organizing Committee has received a big boost after NBS Bank announced it’s K60 million support towards this year’s tournament slated for December.

NBS Bank Chief Executive Officer Kwanele Ngwenya confirmed to the Media yesterday that the amount will will be used to cutter some expenses for the tournament to be hosted by Malawi for the first time.

“We are not releasing K60 million cash to them but we will be paying some expenses like accommodation, transport and food using that particular amount,” said Ngwenya

Ngwenya further said they have decided to render their support to the tournament after noting it’s significance in the development and transformation of the youths lives in the country and across the region.

On his part, Chairman for the Regional 5 Organizing Committee Stanley Mutoya has commended NBS for the support.

“As African Union one of the things that is key to us is investing in demographic dividends through the young people we have so we are excited about it because the youths in this region will find options to kickstart their careers in sports and this is a rare opportunity that is difficult to buy.

We are also most grateful that this is a Bank that puts its focus on Social development and you need capital development by advancing livelihoods of people so we are very proud of such corporates and we are very excited by the gesture expressed by NBS” said Mutoya

Meanwhile, Minister of Sports Richard Chimwendo Banda has called upon more financial support from the corporate world saying the responsibility is too huge that needs alot of money.

Over 2000 athletes from 11 countries are expected to converge in Lilongwe later this year for the regional showpiece.
