Scorchers head coach Lovemore Fazili has emerged as the front runner to take up the vacant post of Assistant coach at Mighty Mukuru Wanderers following the elevation of Meke Mwase to the post of headcoach after the departure of under fire head coach Nsazwurimo Ramadhan.

This publication has it on record that senior Wanderers officials have courted Fazili to fill the gap left by Mwase and a former Nomads player Bob Mpinganjira is being targeted as second assistant coach.

If the trio is re-united they will form a former Flames technical panel that guided the Malawi National Team to it’s only third appearance at the Africa Cup National Cup Championship in 2022.

Inside source tipped us that Mighty Mukuru Wanderers has made contact with the ex-Silver Strikers star and are trying to persuade Fazili to make the move to the Lali Lubani.

A club statement released on Monday afternoon confirmed Mwase’s elevation.

“The Club has appointed Assistant Head Coach, Meke Mwase as the interim Head Coach until further notice” read the statement.

When contacted, club Chief Exevutive Officer Panganeni Ndovie said he will comment on the matter later as he was engaged in an inhouse meeting.

Fazili played for Silver Strikers for four seasons from 1995 to 1999. He was also a regular for Malawi Nation team during the same period.

Since hanging up his boots, Fazili ventured into coaching carrier.

The 54-year-old former striker worked as the head coach for the Malawi Women’s Football National team in 2023, guiding them to the first ever COSAFA glory.

He also served as assistant for the Malawi Under 20, Under 23 and Men’s Senior.

Prior to joining the Flames in 2019, he was head coach of Silver Strikers.
