The Malawi National Women’s Football team Super star Temwa Chawinga has called on authorities to put much focus on developing women’s football in the country.
Chawinga said this today at BICC in Lilongwe, moments after her arrival from United States of America where she plys her trade.
“Our success abroad shows how much talent is hidden in our country so I would urge more financial support from Government and companies”
“We need sponsors from grassroot level to the top flight. I think doing so, it will help to unearth hidden talent, it will help the national team to improve and alot of girls will find their way abroad” she said.
Women’s football President Adelaide Migogo her association will continue working hand in hand with Football Association of Malawi in their hunt for more financial support to the sport.
“First let me congratulate Temwa for her excellent achievements last season. She raised important issues on financial support to women’s football so let me assure Malawians that my association together with football association of Malawi will continue engaging government and different companies for partnerships” she said
The KC Current forward has used her return to Malawi to signed a partnership agreement with Freshwater Project International.
Following the agreement, Chawinga has become the brand Ambassador of the organization which focuses on bringing clean water, health, and hygiene education to schools and communities.
Team Chawinga enjoyed her debut season in USA NWSL where among others she broke records as the first to score 20 goals in a season, first to score 8 consecutive matches, first to score against all 13 teams in the league in a season. She also became the first to reach 26 goal contributions in one season and the first Malawian to win MVP and Golden Boot.
