The Telecom Networks Malawi (TNM) Chief Commercial Officer, Amon Jere has translated his company’s tremendous revenue growth to the sponsoring of Malawi’s top flight league.

TNM plc and Super League of Malawi (SULOM) have been in partnership for the past 18 years, which Jere believes it’s the secret behind TNM’s staggering K10.3 billion profit for the year, 2024.

“We are on a very strong financial position now, as you know in the past we used to make losses. Super League has helped us to the tremendous growth of subscriber base as well as revenue growth”

“In our trading statement for the past year we announced a profit of between K9.3 Billion and 10.3 Billion all this is because getting more customers through football sponsorship” said Jere.

However, as part of appreciation to the fans, Jere said TNM has decided put additional money on its initial yearly K500 million sponsorship to the Super League.

He said the additional money is for the player of the match awards, which has been lacking funds after the expiry of agreement with Farmers Organization Limited at the end of 2023 season.

“We are starting with K100,000 as prize money to the player of the match but there are chances that the amount will be improved”

“We have 240 games per season, so if you multiply by K100,000 it will gave you K24 million. That’s what we are set to use for Man of the Match awards this season” said Jere.

Meanwhile, Jere also announced that TNM has paid last season’s prize money to the best performing teams and individuals.

He further assured TNM’s commitment to continue sponsoring the elite football league.

TNM Marketing Manager Subuza Ngwenya said after clearing the monitory issues for last season, TNM is ready for the 2025 Super League season.

Ngwenya said, TNM has organized different activities to spice up the 2025 season official opening match between Silver Strikers and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at Bingu National Stadium on Saturday.

“We have lined up several activities. Our program starts with a parade at 9 am, we will go around areas like 23, Kauma, Area 49, 25 then to the Stadium”

“At the stadium people should expect live performance from a musician and then the trophy will be paraded into the stadium. We have also organized some items to distribute to the fans” said Ngwenya.

To his part, Super League of Malawi (SULOM) Vice President Ronald Chiwaula hailed TNM for settling dues before 2025 season kick off.

However, Chiwaula said he expects an exciting campaign and urged fans to continue exercising fair play.
