It has been six days since the passing of Malawi’s Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, and the tributes keep coming from elsewhere.
Chilima and nine others, including former first lady Shanil Dzimbiri, were killed when the military plane they were traveling in crashed last Monday in Chikangawa Forest, Mzimba.
Local artists have not been spared in paying homage to Dr. Chilima with several tribute songs released in the wake of his death.
One of these heartfelt tributes, ‘Tribute to Chilima’ was swiftly released by Skeffa Chimoto Just 60 hours after Chilima died before popular musicians, the likes of Evance Meleka, Lulu & the Mathumela Banda, Nesnes, Waxy Kay followed suit.
Apart from releasing tribute songs, artists have also stormed social media to pay their homage to the late Chilima.
Just after the announcement of the tragedy, hip-hop rapper, Fredokiss wrote: “Yes we are Men, but today, we have cried like kids “.
Upon hearing the news, Lulu & the Mathumela Banda posted a heartfelt condolence message on his Facebook page where he also announced the cancellation of releasing his song in honour to Saulos Chilima.
He said “Rest well Captain. Your life was a blessing not just to your family but to all of us. My condolences to all the families who have lost their loved ones on the same. We are together in this”
“I would like to announce the cancellation of my song release this Friday until further notice. Rest in peace”
Another artist Tay Grin, waxed a sorrowful lyrical about his birthday today and the demise of Saulos Chilima. He wrote; “On this day of my birth, a shadow falls across the celebration. The joy is tempered by sorrow, as my heart feels the weight of an unspoken grief. Each passing moment, though marked by the passage of time, is imbued with a melancholy that cannot be easily shaken.
“Today, I honor the bittersweet dance of life and loss, embracing the poignant beauty in this sorrowful birthday. Happy birthday to me as I bid farewell to my brother, Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima. Rest in power, King.
Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima will be laid to rest next week Monday, 17th June at his home, Nsipe, Ntcheu.
