UTM Secretary-General Patricia Kaliati indirectly criticized the party’s acting president, Michael Usi, and others for not attending the Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting in Lilongwe on Friday.
Usi and some other top officials failed to attend the meeting, which was supposed to be held at Usi’s official government residence in Area 12 but was moved to the party head office.
Kaliati mentioned that the party constitution states that if an executive member fails to attend three consecutive meetings, they should resign.
She expressed disappointment, saying, “Unfortunately, those who didn’t attend the meeting are displaying double standards.”
The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) is set to meet on July 19, 2024 to officially endorse the resolutions made by the CEC.
Among other decisions, the party has chosen to leave the Tonse Alliance.
