National Development Party (NDP) president Frank Mwenefumbo has said that it is only the main opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) that can develop the northern region.
He made the remarks in Lilongwe on Friday after the signing of the alliance between the two parties.
Among others, Mwenefumbo said during their alliance discussions, DPP showed the qualities of the party that can satisfy not only the northern development needs but also the country’s prevailing economic woes.
He cited modern roads, hospitals, and shortage of food as some of the needs the region anticipates from the alliance, once voted into power in the forthcoming elections.
It’s very painful that up to date, people take over 12 hours to travel between Lilongwe and Karonga, due to poor roads. We don’t have modern roads and an airport in the northern region; we will make sure that the alliance, under the leadership of Professor Peter Mutharika, gets into power to solve these problems,” he said.
In his remarks, DPP lead alliance negotiator George Chaponda said the party will work hand in hand with all the partners once voted into power.
“Together we will win the election and save Malawians from the problems they are facing,” he said.
