As part of it’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Hill Climbing Club (HCC) Lilongwe Chapter on Wednesday planted trees at the base of Bunda Mountain in Village Headman Mponda.

According to the HCC Lilongwe Chapter public relations officer Evance Mchingama, the event began with an energetic walk/run, followed by a challenging hike up Bunda Mountain.

After the hike, members gathered at the base of Bunda Mountain in Village Headman Mponda’s area for the tree planting exercise.

This initiative was specifically aimed at conserving Bunda Mountain by restoring its natural environment and addressing the issue of deforestation in the surrounding areas.

HCC Lilongwe Chapter members joined by villagers in the exercise

The event attracted a large turnout from the local community, led by Village Headman Mponda, who, along with his people, actively participated in the planting activities

“The HCC Lilongwe Chapter remains dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability and looks forward to organizing more impactful initiatives that foster community involvement and environmental stewardship,” he said

The HCC Lilongwe Chapter Coordinator expressed the club’s commitment to ensuring that Bunda Mountain’s beautiful landscape is maintained by supporting the local communities in initiatives of natural resources conservation.

She requested the members of the village to take care of the trees to ensure survival.

“We are also proud of our new members who showed great enthusiasm and actively engaged in the tree planting exercise. Their participation brought fresh energy and highlighted the growing strength and unity within the HCC Lilongwe Chapter. It was inspiring to see everyone working together with a shared goal of preserving the natural beauty and ecosystem of Bunda Mountain.

“We also extend our sincere gratitude to the three members from Tikwere Adventures who joined us in this noble cause. Their collaboration with HCC members demonstrated the power of unity and shared responsibility in environmental protection,” she said

The chief further requested HCC Lilongwe Chapter to support their natural resource conservation efforts including capacity for tree nursery production.

According to Mchingama, the event was made possible with financial support from the Club’s National Patron Godfrey Chindenga and members Linda, Tamandani, Xand, and Shyreen.
