The 2022 Airtel Top 8 winners Mighty Mukuru Wanderers will face defending TNM Super League Champions and FDH Cup holders FCB Nyasa Bullets in Sunday’s 6th FAM Charity Shield edition.
The competition is sponsored by NBS Bank to the tune of K20million and the money to be raised will be channelled to assist people affected by the Tragedy Cyclone Freddy which hit most parts of Southern Malawi.
Here are 5 key things to know ahead of this encounter.
NBB’s UNBEATEN
Nyasa Big Bullets have won all five editions of the FAM Charity Shield since it’s introduction back in 2016 beating both Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Silver Strikers twice each as well as Kamuzu Barracks once.
RECORDS TO REMEMBER
The teams met on four occasions last season in official matches, with the People’s Team winning twice (first round of TNM Super League and in FDH Bank Cup Semi-Final clash).
The second round ended in a draw while the Nomads won the last match of the season in Airtel Top 8 final.
This means, Wanderers will be looking to extend their unbeaten run over Bullets while the People’s team will be aiming for revenge.
NEW FACES EXPECTED
The Nomads were among the busiest teams in the just ended transfer window, they brought in top players like Christopher Kumwembe, Gaddie Chirwa, Mphatso Kamanga and Lawrence Chaziya who are set to play their first official match in Wanderers colours on Sunday. At the same time they are expected to miss the services of their most reliable player Yamikani Chester who left the club for a Mozambican side Costal do Sol.
On the other hand Bullets are set to start life without last year’s League top goalscorer Babatunde Adepoju and Midfielder Chimwemwe Idana who left the club to Join Venda Academy and Silver Strikers respectively.
But the People’s Team replaced them with Nigerian striker Chinedu Okafor and returnee Mike Mkwate who are likely to feature this time around. They have also signed two Kenyan defenders Clyde Senaji and Collins Odhiambo Okumu who are expected to play in their official match in Malawi.
IS EXTRA-TIME POSSIBLE?
If the game ends all square after 90 minutes it is straight to Penalty spot for a shootout, which will be new to this competition as all the past five times Bullets have won it in regulation time.
As for the number of substitutes, since it’s an official FA match teams will be required to make not more than five in-game changes.
FAM has set different charge for the supporter to watch the Match. The advance standard ticket is going at K2000 while K3000 will be match day charges. The VIP advance ticket is going at K8000 and K10,000 on Match day where as the corporate box ticket is at K200,000 and will be K100,000 more on match day.
