Constituency leader dumps MP as primary election campaign intensifies in Salima

As delegates are preparing to cast their votes for the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) parliamentary candidate for the forthcoming elections, Salima Central constituency chairperson has dumped the incumbent legislator.

Speaking in an interview, Josephy Kaphwiti said he is now supporting one of the candidates, James Andrew Manyetera.

The current member of Parliament for the area is Gerald Kapiseni Phiri.

Manyetera is a former principal secretary and district commissioner before he joined mainstream politics.

He praised Manyetera’s long standing involvement in community affairs, which he believes will translate into effective leadership.

“I made it clear we want him to represent us Salima Central Constituency in parliament. Manyetera has experience in as far as promoting development activities is concerned having served in various top government positions,” he said

According to Kaphwiti, the aspiring member of parliament has been working closely with the community, understanding they culture and needs, saying he has the heart and experience to represent them well in parliament.

Speaking about his endorsement, Manyetera has promised party delegates and people in constituency to lead with integrity, inclusion and accountability once he gets a parliamentary seat this year.

He said its worrisome that saying the area have been denied a lot of development activities for a long time and it was an honor not just to serve his people, but a new chapter for Salima central.

Manyetera also gave the assurance that he plans to work tirelessly with each and every single citizen who wants to be a part of this journey to create a safer, stronger and prosperous Salima central constituency.

“I have many good things that I will do for the people of Salima central. Among others, to fuel our innovation, creativity and culture to drive economic transformation where every single citizen can chart their own destiny.

“It will not be an easy journey but it is one that working together we will be able to achieve these goals, as i promised to work close with party leaders in a quest to develop the constituency,” he assured.

Manyetera also promised a future where young people will be provided with opportunities to grow and earn in generations to come.

Manyetera has meet with party delegates from Nakondwa, Chigombe, Kaputu,Takumana zone and on Tuesday is set to meet with delegates and party members at Mkumpha and Kaphatenga ahead of primaries.
