Sylvester Namiwa, the executive director of the Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI), stated that Mary, the wife of the late Saulos Chilima, has not yet received official communication regarding his death from the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC).
Chilima, who was serving as the country’s vice president at the time of his death, tragically passed away in a plane crash in June in the Chikangawa Forest, located in the Mzimba district.
In an exclusive interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) on Thursday night, Namiwa expressed concern about how the OPC conveyed the news of Chilima’s death to his wife.
His comments come in light of the recently established commission of inquiry into the plane crash that claimed the lives of Chilima and eight others.
“We also need to investigate how the news was delivered to the wife. Up to this point, there has been no formal communication from the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) to Mary Chilima; she only saw men in black suits arriving at her house,” he stated.
We are trying to reach out to the Chilima family and OPC for a comment
Namiwa, who has been calling for the inquiry, was named in the commission but resigned just hours after being sworn in, citing differences over whether the testimonies should be public or not.
