President Lazarus Chakwera ON Friday attended the 16th graduation ceremony of University of Livingstonia (Unilia) in Mzuzu with an advice to the graduates that they make unique and special contributions towards the country,s development.
Addressing the congregation, Chakwera called on the graduates to be fruitful and use the knowledge gained in their studies for the service of Malawians.
“I believe that to transform the country it is not enough. We must also be fruitful. I believe that here are those who will not give up, who believe there is something good to come out of this country. Not to point fingers or complain but to give hope to those who have lost hope,” said Chakwera.
In her remarks, Minister of Education Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima thanked the President for attending the ceremony, saying his presence was a symbol of his commitment in uplifting education standards in the country.
“Your Excellency, your presence signifies your commitment to the development and improvement of the education sector.
“Allow me therefore to applaud the Unilia for its unfailing efforts in providing quality higher education since its establishment in 2003.The university adds value to tertiary education”, said Wirima.
She also commended, Church of Central African Presbytery (CCAP) of Synod of Livingstonia for contributing towards government efforts in education provision at different levels.
About 800 graduates who have completed different faculties at the university were awarded with various academic awards.
The President who was accompanied by the First Lady, Madam Monica Chakwera was upon arrival welcomed by the Minister of Education Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima and General Secretary for CCAP Synod of Livingstonia, Reverend William Tembo among others
The graduation was held under the theme “Education for self-reliance and a moral society. “
