Government has announced that the State President Lazarus Chakwera has cancelled his trip to South Africa for the inauguration of Cyril Ramaphosa who has been re-elected as South African President.
Minister of Information and Digitalization Moses Kumkuyu announced this today at the Office of President and Cabinet in Lilongwe saying the President made a decision as the trip is within the 21 days of mourning State Vice President Saulos Chilima.
However, Kumkuyu said the President has delegated Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo for the ceremony slated for Wednesday 19 June 2024.
“As we continue to mourn and honour the life of Dr. Saulos Chilima the President has cancelled his travel to the Republic of South Africa for the inauguration of President Cyril Ramaphosa and in his place the president has delegated the Minister of foreign affairs honorable Nancy Tembo to represent him and the nation at the inauguration ceremony” said Kumkuyu
Updating on an investigation to determine what caused the plane crash, he admitted that preparations to find independent investigators are in progress.
“The Government is looking forward to finding an independent investigation to help shed more light on what happened on that fateful day leading to the crash of that aircraft, therefore Government would like to call for calm from Malawians as we continue to honor the legacy of this great son of the soil”
“Be informed that right now consultations are in progress with and at a very advanced stage, meetings are taking place as we speak, once we done, the commitments that are being made will announce details of support pledged towards this activity” he added
