Catholic Development Commission in Malawi (CADECOM) has launched a project aimed at disbursing K92,500 each to 1200 people affected by El Nino induced drought.
The initiative is being implemented in partnership with Mukuru Financial Services in Traditional Authority Chigalu in Blantyre rural.
Sales manager for Mukuru Chiyembekezo Ken Ndala said the partnership will help to facilitate accessibility of financial aid by vulnerable families through their financial service platforms without challenges.
“The advantage of our Enterprise Payment Platform is that beneficiaries will not be deducted any withdrawal fee as they are accessing their money,” added Ndala.
Ndala has since appealed to beneficiaries of the financial aid to use for purposes that will transform their lives.
Edna Mailosi who is an 85 year old beneficiary, described the project as a timely intervention which will help her to buy maize for her family.
“At least I will be able to provided food for next coming days after sleeping on an empty stomach as we don’t have anything to eat.” Said Mailosi.
The same project is also being implemented in TA Kunthembwe in Blantyre rural.
Over K976. 8million is expected to be disbursed to the affected families from January to March this year.
The three month partnership between the two organisation’s is being funded by the European Union Humanitarian Aid.
