Days after the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) announced that ministers will be engaging the public on President Lazarus Chakwera’s State of the Nation Address (SONA), the Malawi Law Society (MLS) has criticized the decision.
MLS President Patrick Mpaka said any clarification on the SONA rests with the President and not anyone else.
In his address, which later transpired that it was full of lies, Chakwera outlined several development projects which he claimed that his government has done for the past four years.
It later transpired that some of those developments are non-existent.
Speaking to Capital FM Radio, Mpaka said as the head of the State, Chakwera has a duty to account for his statements.
In a statement, Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Colleen Zamba said minister will provide clarification on the SONA both in Parliament and outside.
“Cabinet Ministers will engage the public to provide updates on the many development projects completed and in progress in every district. Ministers will provide clarifications both in and outside Parliament on the few queries that have been raised by few stakeholders in the media regarding the status of certain projects.
“The Government reaffirms its commitment to delivering on its promises and to ensuring that the public remains well-informed on all programmes, projects and initiatives being implemented in the continued quest of taking the Nation’s Development forward,” she said
