    Azam TV rewards royal customers 

    One of the country’s digital satellite television providers Azam TV has rewarded its customers various prizes in a competition dubbed Azam TV raffle draw.

    The competition which ran for three months from 24th November 2024 to January 25th 2025 was aimed at appreciating subscribers who have been royal to the company.

    Speaking during the prize presentation in Blantyre, general manager for the company Syed Kadarsha said he was impressed with the outcome of the competition.

    Kadarsha added that 3,946 subscribers participated in the competition where 152 lucky customers won various prizes.

    “The campaign has helped us to increase the customer base and built the spirit of loyalty and trust”. Said Kadarsha

    “This has encouraged us to do more to ensure that we keep in touch with our customers”. He added.

    A Mangochi based businessman Wilfred Nyirenda emerged as the grand winner in the competition after walking away with a whopping MWK 8.755 million in cash.

    Nyirenda told journalist that the money will go towards boosting his business which almost went down.

    Among the prizes which were given out during the raffle draw were motorbikes, plasma tvs, upright fridges and and cash.

    During the competition, customers were required to pay a three months advance subscription for three bouquets namely, Azam Play, Azam Plus and Azam Pure.

    The three months competition attracted subscribers from across the country from all the platforms.

    Chikondi Banda and Billy Shaibu, who residents of Lilongwe and Mangochi districts respectively, can now walk tall after winning millions of Kwachas in the Betpawa online casino

    Banda became the highest winner with a whopping K140m after playing the Aviator and Jext.

    The new millionaire in town said his secret was never to give up after many attempts.

    “I have played this game for several occasions and I almost gave up after yielding nothing but I’m happy it has finally paid off,” Said Banda

    On his next move, Banda said he is intending to put his money on the stock exchange as part of his investment and long time treasure.

    On the other hand, Shaibu who is a fuel attendant was all smiles after winning K127m.

    “This is more like a miracle, I have played many times but it came like a surprise to me.

    “I have won some money before through the same game but wasn’t sure I will become this far,” Shaibu said

    Shaibu said is since consulting his family before he can invest his money in any business fearing for loss.

    Southern Regional Marketing manager for Betpawa, Bita Nakanga acknowledged the overwhelming response the company has been receiving since it’s introduction in the country.

    “We are so impressed with the response coming through which shows we are doing what we had intended to our valued customers,” said Nakanga

    Nakanga added that; “we are also advising our customers to avoid taking gambling as a daily source of income as this could lead them to disastrous.

    “Otherwise the feedback has been very overwhelming and we expect more people to enjoy the game”.

    Currently, Africa’s record winning amount on Aviator is held by a BetPawa customer from Ghana, holding a record winning amount of K841.3 million on Aviator last year.

    BetPawa is a mobile betting company operating in 17 countries across Africa.

    CADECOM, Mukuru bail out families affected by El Nino

    Catholic Development Commission in Malawi (CADECOM) has launched a project aimed at disbursing K92,500 each to 1200 people affected by El Nino induced drought.

    The initiative is being implemented in partnership with Mukuru Financial Services in Traditional Authority Chigalu in Blantyre rural.

    Sales  manager for Mukuru Chiyembekezo Ken Ndala said the partnership will help to facilitate accessibility of financial aid by vulnerable families through their financial service platforms without challenges.

    “The advantage of our Enterprise Payment Platform is that beneficiaries will not be deducted any withdrawal fee as they are accessing their money,” added Ndala.

    Ndala has since appealed to beneficiaries of the financial aid to use for purposes that will transform their lives.

    Edna Mailosi who is an 85 year old beneficiary, described the project as a timely intervention which will help her to buy maize for her family.

    “At least I will be able to provided food for next coming days after sleeping on an empty stomach  as we don’t have anything to eat.” Said Mailosi.

    The same project is also being implemented in TA Kunthembwe in Blantyre rural.

    Over K976. 8million is expected to be disbursed to the affected families from January to March this year.

    The three month partnership between the two organisation’s is being funded by the European Union Humanitarian Aid.

    AOA Alliance refurbishes trauma and orthopaedic surgery departments at Queens

    There were jubilations at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital on Tuesday when AOA Alliance and partners handed over the refurbished Trauma and Orthopedic Surgery department at the referral hospital.

    AOA Alliance director Dr Claude Martin said the have decided to intervene as one way of addressing some of the challenges facing the the hospital.

    According to Dr Martin, his organisation has been involved in several charitable projects mainly education but decided to extend it’s corporate responsibility to health after being approached by the hospital’s administration.

    “We are so impressed with the work done by the local contractor of renovating the old orthopaedic department and the additional of the extra operational ward which will ease the work of burden of doctors at the facility,” he saidA

    Dr Martin further said that his organisation has spent US$125 (about K216 million) for the project which he said has been done within three months a agreed.

    On his part Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital Director Dr Kelvin Mponda described the project as a timely gesture which will help the hospital to treat more patients than it was before.

    “The opening of the additional theatre is a milestone in ensuring that we operate more patients within a day easing the pressure we have had in the past,” said  Dr Mponda.

    He also hailed his staff for their dedication to their work despite minimum resources at the referral hospital.

    Dr Mponda also warned the staff against theft of hospital materials which he said is rampant at the facility.

    “Currently we have recommended the firing of some staff who were caught of stealing hospital materials to put a stop to would be offenders,” he said.

    Previously, the department of Trauma and Orthopedic Surgery used to operate 30 to 40 patients in a month but the figure is expected to increase following the refurbishment of the introduction of the new ward.

    K Motors comes to the rescues of Ndirande Police Stations

    K Motors had handed over a refurbished motor vehicle to Ndirande police station as part of tightening security in the township.

    Speaking during the the handover ceremony of a refurbished Toyota landcruiser, General Manager for K.Motors Marlon Mount said the gesture is part of the corporate social responsibility.

    “We are committed to ensuring that we operate our business in a safe and secure environment hence the decision to help our men in uniform to address some of the mobility challenges.” Mount added.

    Mount further said this is an ongoing initiative which has already reached other institutions in similar situation.

    On his part, Officer In-Charge for Ndirande police Assistance Commissioner McLeod Mtunduwatha commended K.Motors for their swift intervention to repair the vehicle which he said will help to curb crime rate in the township and the sorunding areas.

    “This partnership is really bearing fruits considering the fact that business operators will be assured to maximum security especially during night patrols” says Mtunduwatha.

    He has since appealed to other well wishes to emulate the gesture demonstrated by K Motors as part of protecting their lives and property.

    K Motors has previously refurbished an ambulance at Chikwawa district hospital and a landcruiser at Limbe police station just to mention a few.

    Blantyre Water Board embarks on improving water supply project in the city

    Blantyre Water Board has launched a ‘Malawi Water and Sanitation project’ to address the ongoing water crisis that has been affecting the residents of Blantyre for years.

    The project, which is being funded by the World Bank with $145 million, will last for five years.

    According to Dalitso Godia, the Supply Manager at Blantyre Water Board, the project aims to improve access to better water supply and sanitation services in the city.

    Currently, the utility water body is struggling to provide water to new connections due to the rapid population growth.

    The project will involve rehabilitating and upgrading the pumping equipment at Mudi, Chichiri, Nyambadwe Walkers, and Chileka intake to ensure stable water supply to the city residents.

    Additionally, solar PV power will be installed at eight water intakes to reduce high electricity costs, which have been negatively affecting water supply.

    Blantyre City Council will also benefit from the project, as the sewage pipeline will be rehabilitated over a 50-kilometer distance in the city.

    This initiative will help reduce pollution and the incidence of water-borne diseases such as cholera, which have been tormenting some households in the city.

    The project is expected to directly benefit 330,000 Blantyre residents with improved water supply and 480,000 people with managed refuse collection services after the rehabilitation and upgrading of water and sewage waste infrastructures.

    The Malawi Government is implementing the five-year project with funding from the World Bank through the Blantyre Water Board and Blantyre City Council.

    Upon completion of the project in 2028, the council expects to improve good hygiene and sanitation among the city residents.

    Furthermore, a new recycling and dumping site will be constructed at Chigumula to replace the Dzeka dumping site, which is currently in a bad state.
