Body of late Vice President, Saulos Chilima and eight others who died in a plane crash near Chikangawa in Mzimba arrived in Lilongwe on Tuesday evening through Kamuzu International Airport (KIA).
The bodies were carried by a Zambian Air Force helicopter.
President, Lazarus Chakwera, Madam Monica Chakwera, some Cabinet Ministers and other senior government officials were among those who received the bodies.
Also present was spouse to the late Vice President wife, Madam Mary Chilima.
The Vice President was born on February 12, 1973 in a Ngoni tribe from Ntcheu District in the central region of Malawi.
He was married to Mary and together they have two children Sean and Elizabeth.
Meanwhile, President Chakwera has directed that the nation observes a period of 21 days of mourning starting on Tuesday, June 11 to July 1, 2024 in honour of the late Chilima and eight others who lost their lives in a tragic plane crash on Monday.
The President has also directed that all flags be flown half-mast throughout the period of mourning.
