UTM Secretary General, Patricia Kaliati, expressed gratitude for the availability of sensitive photos of late Vice President Saulos Chilima at the scene of the crash, despite the party’s stance against sharing such images.
She mentioned that while they consider the pictures distasteful, they are helpful in understanding the actual events.
During an update on the funeral program for Chilima in Lilongwe, Kaliati stated, “Even though we are saying that these pictures are of bad taste, we are grateful that they are helping us to know what really happened.
“We thank all those who are leaking the pictures because we are able to know if indeed our president as a result of the impact or he was being dragged.”
Kaliati also questioned why the same plane that successfully transported the body of late Ralph Kasambara from Blantyre to Mzuzu and returned back to Lilongwe, failed to land safely with Chilima on board in similar weather conditions.
Meanwhile the party has called for a thorough investigation on the crash which will involve international experts, development partners and non-governmental organizations.
