2023 Basketball season excites Sozobal as CDHIB team registers 7 wins in 7 games

Southern Zone Basketball League (Sozobal) says they are excited with the quality of play that the teams are showcasing while also displaying individual brilliance and entertainment to the game.

These remarks were made by Sozobal chairperson Raymond Chioko during a preparation meeting for week 7 games which took place on 26th and 27 the august 2023 respectively at Malawi university of business and applied sciences and kamuzu university of health sciences sports complexes in Blantyre.

Chioka also observed that the brilliance of the teams both men and ladies in the league is a clear sighn that they all came prepared this season which gives confidence that the league will be highly competitive.

“Since the kickoff othe games on the 8th of July all the teams both in men’s cartegory and ladies category, we have watched exciting and entertaining games,individual skills and brilliance which gives us hope and confidence to have a great season” said Chioko.

CDHIB basket ball team is currently leading the men’s log table with 14 points from 7 games they have played so far and winning all.

Crazy Warriors are second with 12 points from 7 games while Bricks have 10 points from 6 games to complete the top 3 standings.

This weekend ,CDHIB will try to maintain their unbeaten run when they face the third position Bricks on Friday 01st September, 2023 from 6:30pm at KUHeS Sports Complex.

Crazy Warriors will play Gorillaz of Malawi university of science and technology MUST at Blantyre Youth Centre on Saturday 02nd September, 2023.

10 teams are competing in mens division and 8 teams are competing in ladies.

In the ladies division, Cobbe Ladies are leading the pack with 8 points from 4 games. Kukoma Eagles and Mikoko Mystics, have registered 6 points from 3 games and 6 points from 4 games played respectively.

Cobbe will be playing MUBAS LadyCats at UNIMA while SPARKS plays Eagles on Sunday 02nd September, 2023 at Blantyre Youth Centre.

The teams are also preparing for the CDHIB Money in Bank National tournament scheduled to take place from 13th to 16th October 2023.

This is an invitation tournament where the teams below qualified automatically by being in the top 3 in their respective leagues of the 2022 season:

Bravehearts Eagles
Bricks Bravehearts Ladies
Crazy Warriors Arkangels
Central Knights Dynamites
Moyale Cobbe Ladies
ABC Lions Katana

12 teams are expected in each category and the remaining slots will be filled by teams that will be invited based on the criteria to be used by the sponsors and SOZOBAL.

This tournament will be spiced up by the Madala Tournament to be competed by teams of those above 35 years old.

In the madala category we expect teams like TOP City, Hoops, Entrepreneurs, TNM, MRA, One Acres, Sundayballers and others to participate.
