Youth United for Change, a local organization, is advocating for collaborative efforts to address the challenges faced by students with disabilities in Malawi.
According to Albert Simbani, the organization’s director, inadequate teaching and learning materials, as well as a lack of trained teachers, hinder the academic progress of students with disabilities.
He said to promote inclusive education, Youth United for Change has organized a competition involving students with disabilities in Zomba district.
Simbani added that the event aims to raise funds to improve the lives of students with disabilities and renovate resource centers in the district.
Simbani emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing the challenges faced by learners with disabilities and urged parents and guardians to take responsibility for sending their children with disabilities to school.
“Disability is not inability, these students have potential to acquire formal education” He said.
Benerdetter Vaz, Director of Joy Abilities Empowerment, applauded Youth United for Change for their initiative, stating that it will help empower students with disabilities and promote their academic endeavors.
Through collaborative efforts, the Youth United for Change aims to create a conducive learning environment for all learners and enhance inclusive education in Malawi.
