The rulling Malawi Congress Party  (MCP), has condemned violent conduct by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) members.

Speaking at a press briefing at MCP headquarters in Lilongwe, the Party’s Secretary General, Richard Chimwendo Banda, indicated that the violent conduct by DPP members is being incited by the Party’s top officials.

“The message is condemning violence, but also pointing out the lapses we are seeing with the leadership of DPP in failing to control their members, because this is now more or less like a policy in DPP to perpetuate violence and clearly targeting Malawi Congress Party”

“We have heard DPP Member of Parliament for Mulanje Bale, Victor Musowa and DPP Governor to the Eastern Region, Daudi Chikwanje calling their supporters to burn, beat and chase anyone wearing MCP colours which is unacceptable in a democratic nation” said Chimwendo

However, Chimwendo has called for religious leaders and Civil Society Organizations, to condemn the acts as well as law enforcement agencies to act against people of such nature.

Meanwhile, Chimwendo Banda has urged MCP faithfuls not to revenge but continue being peaceful.

Taking her turn, MCP’s Director of Women Jean Sendeza has urged women in the country to join hands and condemn violent acts by DPP.

“Their acts can easily cause civil war and it’s women and children who mostly suffer during war. Let me call upon all women in this country to join hands and condemn this”

Apart from the duo, there were also other MCP to officials, including Organizing Secretary Deus Gumba, Spokesperson Jessie Kabwira, Governor for Central Region Zebron Chilondola and second vice Secretary Uchizi Mkandawire.
