Upie Collection leads Mzuzu Fashion Show to champion inclusivity and empowerment

Ruth Chirwa, founder of Upie Collection, is set to host a transformative fashion show aimed at challenging societal norms and promoting diversity and inclusivity.

In an interview with Ruth Chirwa said this event is more than just a fashion show it will be a platform for inclusivity and empowerment which will feature models with disabilities alongside able-bodied models, challenging societal norms and promoting diversity and inclusivity.

“By doing this fashion show , I aim to break down barriers and build bridges between people with disabilities and those without.

After years of showcasing my work outside of Mzuzu, I felt it was time to bring my fashion passion home and celebrate the beauty and talent of my community,” She said

Chirwa added that the fashion show will highlight the creations of ten designers, models both with and without disabilities, underscoring the celebration of diversity. It will also feature a performance by Kelvin Sings, adding an artistic dimension to the event.

“The show will feature models with and without disabilities, celebrating our differences and similarities. It will be a night of fashion, art, and inspiration, where everyone will experience the beauty of inclusivity and the power of breaking barriers,” She said.

In an interview with a key sponsor from Unlimited Building Supplies,Levi Njikho, said he was inspired by Ruth’ s story that made him to sponsor the event as a way of helping to bridge the gap that is there and views people have concerning people with disability.

“Being someone who has an Aunt and younger brother with disability and hearing Ruth story it motivated me to be involved in the event by doing my part of sponsoring the fashion show as it will be a platform that will help give and create opportunities to designers and models to showcase their talent,” he said

The fashion show is scheduled for the 6th of September at Springs Park, the event, themed “Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges,” goes beyond traditional fashion showcases to serve as a powerful platform for inclusivity and empowerment.
