UN Assistant Secretary General to visit Malawi

Ahuna Eziakonwa, who is United Nations Assistant General Secretary and UNDP Regional Bureau for Africa Director will be in Malawi for a three day visit where among other things will meet President Lazarus Chakwera, Senior Government Officials, Malawi Electoral Commission officials and development partners and other stakeholders.

Eziakonwa will jet in the country today Sunday 3rd March ahead of her duties lined up until Wednesday 6th March.

In a Press Statement made available to the Atlas Malawi, the UN Assistant Secretary General will among other places visit the Naturals Limited Factory, a UNDP supported enterprise, to have an understanding of the positive impact the company has had on income and livelihoods.

“The UN Assistant General Secretary and UNDP Regional Bureau for Africa Director will travel to Mchinji district to see the Sitolo Minigrid and the National ID Registration Centre at Kamwendo Teachers Development Centre. In Blantyre, Eziakonwa will participate in a Round Table discussion on women empowerment, focusing on removing barriers to gender equality and women’s advancement”, Reads part of the statement.

The Assistant Secretary General is expected to conclude her visit by inaugurating the University Innovation Pod at the Malawi University of business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) alongside President Chakwera.

Eziakonwa who serves as both the UN Assistant Secretary General and UNDP leads UNDP’s efforts in supporting 46 African countries to achieve Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
