Leader of the United Democratic Front (UDF) in Parliament, Ned Poya said his party respects the State President that’s why they remained in the House when the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) walked out.
DPP legislators walked out of Parliament when President Lazarus Chakwera was about to start to respond to questions on Wednesday.
But when the other legislators walked out, the UDF and PDP representatives did not follow as Poya said it was a total disrespect to the President.
“As UDF we respect the presidency regardless of who is seating there. It is a seat that has to be respected by all Malawians. He is the person that was voted by Malawians so as UDF we can’t support the idea,” said Poya.
Meanwhile, Poya said he was still unconvinced with the responses by the President today, describing it as usual answers.
Leader of the House, Richard Chimwendo Banda described the protests as a missed opportunity to present their concerns to the President.
“What has happened today is a shame, the opposition denying Malawians the real oversight from the opposition. The opposition is supposed to provide constructive criticism to government,” he said
“The failure of the leader of opposition to be in the house raise questions whether he understands his role but I’ll leave Malawians to judge his integrity” said Chimwendo Banda
