Lilongwe City South West legislator who is also Foreign affairs Minister Nancy Tembo has urged fellow members of parliament to fully utilize the Constituency Development Fund allocation.

Tembo made the sentiments during a public rally which state president Dr Lazarus Chakwera addressed in her constituency in the Capital Lilongwe on Sunday afternoon.

Tembo wondered why fellow legislators are failing to fully utilise the annual 200 million allocation which is meant to develop their constituencies.

‘I don’t think as MPs we have enough reason to justify the failure to fully utilise the CDF allocation. We need to put this money into good use whilst we lobby for an increase towards the allocation’, said Tembo.

The foreign affairs Minister then hailed Chakwera for approving an increment towards the CDF allocation.

‘Your excellency over the 4 years you have been at the helm we have seen tremendous jump in the CDF allocation from somewhere below 50 million to 200 million. This signifies your serious commitment in uplifting the welfare of the people we legislators represent’, said Tembo.

Tembo then proceeded to highlight some of the development activities she has been undertaking in her constituency using CDF funds including construction of a market in area 24 as well as school blocks.

During the current meeting of parliament legislators have been proposing for an increase towards the CDF to facilitate smooth implementation of development activities.
