Former Democratic Progressive Party-(DPP) secretary General Grezelder Jeffrey has joined the governing Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
Jeffrey was welcomed into the party during a developmental rally which party president and Malawi’s president Lazarus Chakwera addressed in area 24 on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking during the rally Jefferey said she has decided to join the MCP as she feels that the party is very accommodative and resonates well with her principles.
‘I’m a champion of women empowerment and the MCP has shown that it can accommodate women in senior leadership positions as the party’s 2 deputy presidents are women(Catherine Gotani Hara first vice president and Abida Mia second deputy president).
According to Jeffrey all what she needs now is to be given time and space to go full throttle on the ground to sell the MCP brand.
‘Honourable SG just give me and the operating ground.I’m done with DPP and my focus is on growing the MCP brand’, she said.
Speaking earlier MCP Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda said it was sad that some members of the UTM party are still trivializing the death of former vice president Saulos Chilima.
‘Its high time that we moved on from Chilima’s death.Stop implicating people that you can’t prove reasonable doubt that they had a hand in the former vice president’s death’, said Chimwendo.
During the rally the MCP also unveiled it’s new Executive committee which was elected at the party’s recently held convention.
