St. Gabriel Medicals Zitha have moved within one point of leaders, Silver Strikers Reserve following their 2-0 win over Mangoni Warriors in K16.5 million Chipiku Premier Division League.
The win took them to 30 points, one behind leaders Silver Strikers Reserve after playing 13 games.
The result has put championship race wide open for Zitha, Silver Reserve and third placed Kawinga FC.
The Young Bankers were assigned to clash with Luanar FC but their day ended in tears after suffering second defeat in the round of 12 teams.
The Millias Pofere Jegwe side relied on Themba Malinda and Steve Ephraim to beat Young Bankers, a victory that lifted them to seventh on standings.
Kawinga FC produced masterclass performance after scoring eight past eighth placed Villa FC.
Two braces from Harvey Nasiyaya and Yasin Chida and a goal each from Kelvin Gama, Gift Kadawati, Lazarus Chirwa and Rahim Mtondela were enough for the vistors to claim 8-0 victory.
In another match, Kamuzu Barracks Reserve continued to suffer in the Chipiku Premier Division League as they lost 3-2 against Ngolowindo FC.
Kelvin Chimwala and Hastings Banda were on target for KB Reserve but their goals weren’t enough to hand them anything as Thilo Mangolowondo, Alex Mabvuto and Patrick Mambo scored for the vistors to give them victory.
Kamuzu Barracks Reserve remains bottom with just six points while Ngolowindo FC are on 10th with 10 points.
Another team that claimed an away victory is Leyman Panthers who beat Support Battalion 2-1 with goals from Willy Kawinga and Andrew Mapemba while the host’s consolation goal was scored by Eric Mbite.
With 12 points, Leyman Panthers lays ninth on standings while Support Battalion sits sixth with 20 points.
The last match involved Mbabzi United who beat Airborne Rangers 2-0. The victory for Mbabzi helped them to maintain fourth place with 24 points now while Airborne have 20 points on fifth.
