The stage is set for a groundbreaking event as the Malawi Paralympic Committee, under the visionary leadership of President James Chiutsi, spearheads an impactful awareness campaign for the National Parasport Festival.

Taking place on December 28th, 2023, at the renowned Bingu National Stadium, this festival marks a significant stride towards inclusivity in Malawi’s sporting landscape.

Addressing a diverse and enthusiastic audience at the Lilongwe Game Complex, Chiutsi passionately declared an end to the era of concealing the talents of individuals with disabilities.

He emphasized the inherent right of every individual, regardless of abilities, to actively engage in the sporting pursuits of their choice.

The launch event marked the official commencement of the awareness campaign, generating anticipation for the upcoming festival that promises to be a transformative experience.

Chiutsi extended a heartfelt call to organizations and individuals of goodwill, urging them to rally behind the Malawi Parasport Festival.

Recognizing the collective effort needed for success, he emphasized the importance of widespread support and active community engagement in spreading the campaign’s message.

The President’s appeal resonates with the success of a similar event held in July, indicating a growing interest and enthusiasm for parasports in Malawi.

On the sidelines of the campaign, Chimwemwe Makalani, a powerlifter, shared a personal testament to the positive impact of the games on his self-esteem.

Having represented Malawi at the Cairo Games with a remarkable display of strength, lifting an impressive 100 kg, Makalani stands as a symbol of resilience and achievement in parasports.

“I lift not only weights but the barriers that once confined my spirit. In every kilogram, I find strength, and in every challenge, I discover the power to redefine what’s possible,”stated Makalani

The Malawi Parasport Festival, proudly sponsored by K2 Transformers, exemplifies the collaboration between sports organizations and businesses in championing diversity and equal opportunities.
