Speaker of Parliament, Catherine Gotani Hara has ordered Minister of Higher Education, Jessie Kabwira to provide evidence on her allegations that the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is a party of killers and thieves.
Standing on a point of order, Kabwira, who is the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) spokesperson, made the allegations after when DPP legislator for Blantyre South East Sameer Suleman said budgetary allocation for the Office of the President and Cabinet cabinet must be trimmed.
“If you can’t explain where the money went when President Lazarus Chakwera was sworn in, we will arrest you. DPP is a party full of thieves, full of killers and a party full of evils,” she said, refering to allegations that DPP, through some top Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) officials illegally transfered money as MCP was taking over
But when the speaker asked Kabwira to clarify her words, she said: “I want to repeat, when people have stolen, they will be arrested, and we shall arrest them unapologetically if the can’t explain where the money went. Let me start clarifying the word killer, during the DPP administration, people with albinism were being killed.
“Money went missing when Chakwera was sworn in and they were the ones (DPP) who transferred the money from Reserve Bank to the private Bank.” she added.
Kabwira is expected to provide the evidence on Tuesday.
