In an effort to ensure safety of people living along the railway and security of rail equipments, Salima Police through the office of Community policing have intensified intensive awareness and sensitization meetings within the district.
Public relations officer for Salima Police Sub Inspector Rabbeca Ndiwate said the intensification follows rejuvenation of the locomotive train operations in Salima to be officially witnessed before the end of this month of May.
During the meeting which took place on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Kachitsa village, which is along the railway line, Station Community Policing Cordinator, Sub Inspector Hardwell Chimonjo, urged the communities to avoid: plying their businesses, building any kind of structures, and feeding their livestocks along the railway line.
Chimonjo further asked the gathering to work hand in hand with the community policing structures as well as Police in ensuring protection of life and property of people travelling by rail.
“Vandalism of railway line should not be torelated at all cost, as it posses danger to lives of people travelling by rail, everyone found doing the malpractice to be reported to Police for proper action,” he said
On his part, speaking on behalf of the Officer In Charge, Inspector Mtenje, who is the station Traffic Officer dwelled much on reporting cases of rail parts vandalism in time to avoid unnecessary accidents.
“The law will not spare anyone found committing crimes along the railwayline, let’s work hand in hand in securing this development in our area.” He said.
Echoing the same, Detective Sergeant Charity Mphamba reminded parents and guardians to jealously guard against the movement of young ones, those with hearing impairment, the blind and epileptic along the railway passage.
Group Village Headman Kachitsa hailed police for the timely messages, promise to take good care of rail operations, it’s security and above all, safety of his subjects.
Meanwhile, Police in the district are tirelessly working jointly with Community policing structures along the areas that were crossed by the rail by providing them with working materials like refrectors, touches, whistles to assist them during their operations.
