Malawi’s high-flying centre of academic excellence, Saint Andrews International High School, is spreading its wings to the neighbouring Mozambique in a bid to woo students in the former Portuguese colony to come to Malawi for quality education at the prized institute of learning.

A five-member delegation from Saint Andrews International High School comprising two teachers and two students and led by the head teacher, Sarah Samanyika, visited Tete Province in Mozambique with the help of the Malawi Consul General Happy Saka and his team and in collaboration with the Malawi High Commissioner to Mozambique Wezi Moyo to promote and market the school’s high-end academic services and to attract learners in that country as they seek to expand their territory.

The Saint Andrews International High School delegation included the headmistress Sarah Samanyika, teachers Mr. Izette and Mrs Kacholola – the delegation also included two senior students and school prefects, Blossom Mijiga and Isaac Mpemba.

During the week-long visit, an event was held on Friday as a climax, at the VIP Hotel in Tete organized for Saint Andrews International High School’s mission to get Mozambican students study at the Malawian 60 year-old British curriculum learning institution, the Malawi High Commissioner to Maputo said the function was seized with the agenda of Trade and Investment as well as education.

Ambassador Moyo said: “Saint Andrews International High School is here to sell its services and while Consulate is facilitating this agenda for the school in its own way it is contributing to the bigger picture of strengthening the bilateral relations between Malawi and Mozambique.”

Moyo commended SAIntS head teacher, Sarah Samanyika and her team for taking a bold decision to go to Mozambique to undertake a number of promotional activities for the High School.

The Malawi Consulate in Tete in collaboration with Mozambique Confederation of Economic Associations CTA is organizing a Business Forum to be hosted by Tete Province tentatively from 11 to 13 July, 2024.

SAInts is expected to attend the Forum to continue with the efforts they have laid foundation during the visit this time around.

This is the major route through which Consulate facilitates that the business community from Tete should interface with their counter parts from Malawi to strike business deals of different natures and secure business partnerships from across the the borders.

Samanyika thanked both the Tete Province Consul General Happy Saka and the Malawian High Commissioner Wezi Moyo for facilitating the trip and the support during the visit.

The Consulate hosted and accommodated the Saint Andrews International High School delegation during their visit and stay in Mozambican Province of Tete.

Samanyika also hailed the two senior students and school prefects Blossom Mijiga and Isaac Mpemba for representing the school really well.

In an interview Malawi Consul General in Tete Province Happy Saka said he is optimistic that the bilateral relationship between the people of the two countries will continue to flourish as the two nations share a very strong bond.

“We are pleased that Saint Andrews International High School took the initiative to come to Tete to promote quality of education and the excellent academic service delivery because a lot of people in Mozambique now want to send their children to a good school to learn English and Saint Andrews is that good school they are looking for and more,” Saka said.

Saka said Malawi and Mozambique have a lot in common and that is the reason the Malawi High Commissioner Wezi Moyo is working hard to develop partnerships and coordinations between the peoples of the countries.

“Our ambassador, Her Excellency Wezi Moyo is a very hardworking and visionary leader who is working tirelessly to ensure that the people of Malawi and Mozambique both benefit from each other.

“Here in Tete, there are a lot for trade and investment for Malawian and we are encouraging our people to take this opportunity and in the same vein we are encouraging the Mozambican people to go to Malawi to invest as the Republican President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has created a conducive environment and have have in place favourable conditions for trade and investment for both local and foreign investors,” Saka said.

Saka applauded Saint Andrews International High School for deciding to expand their horizon to Mozambique.

“I was so impressed with the two students, Blossom and Isaac, who accompanied the head teacher and two teachers for displaying high integrity and excellent demeanor. They are super intelligent and true future leaders. With what I saw in them, Malawi will be in safe hands in the future,” Saka explained.

The SAIntS in Blantyre, Malawi, was founded 1938 by the Church of Scotland Mission.
