Lilongwe Police Station is hunting for unknown criminals who tampered with the 100KVA capacity model transformer at St Paul’s training center which is at Mlale Catholic Mission during the night of July 06, 2024.
Lilongwe Police deputy spokesperson Constable Khumbo Sanyiwa said the unknown criminals pulled the transformer from its structure and dismantled it by removing the top cover and its copper coil.
“The matter was reported to Mitundu Police Unit and investigations officers accompanied by security officers from Escom visited the scene,” she said
Sanyiwa said the total value of the vandalized transformer is K6.7 million. Intensive investigations are still in progress to arrest the culprits and to recover the stolen copper coils and cables.
