In a heartfelt commendation, the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) has lauded President Lazarus Chakwera for his exceptional leadership during the national mourning period following the tragic passing of Vice President Saulos Chilima and eight other officials.

The commendation highlights President Chakwera’s unique leadership qualities and his commitment to ensuring dignified send-offs for the departed souls.

PAC spokesperson Gilford Matonga emphasized the President’s role in providing guidance and support to the nation during this difficult time.

“President Chakwera has demonstrated remarkable leadership, ensuring that the mourning period was observed with the dignity and respect befitting our cultural values,” Matonga stated. “His actions have provided solace and direction to a grieving nation.”

The late Chilima, a prominent figure in Malawian politics, passed away along with eight other officials, casting a pall of sorrow over the country. The President’s leadership during this period has been crucial in uniting the nation and honoring the memories of the departed.

Matonga, however, expressed concern over the chaotic incidents that occurred leading up to the burial ceremony of Dr. Chilima in Ntcheu.

“The chaos witnessed was contrary to our cultural values and did not reflect the respect and solemnity that such an occasion demands,” he remarked.

He urged all citizens to adhere to cultural norms and practices that honor the deceased and provide comfort to the bereaved families.

The Public Affairs Committee, a key advisory body in Malawi, has often played a significant role in guiding the nation on matters of public interest and national importance.

Their commendation of President Chakwera underscores the significance of effective leadership during times of national crisis.

As the nation continues to mourn, the call for unity and respect for cultural traditions remains paramount. The leadership displayed by President Chakwera serves as a beacon of hope and resilience, guiding Malawi through this period of sorrow.

The PAC’s praise is not just a recognition of his efforts but also a reminder of the importance of compassionate and dignified leadership in times of tragedy.

The legacy of the late Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima and the other officials will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of Malawians, as the country looks to the future with renewed strength and unity.
