A 25 year-old man identified as James Mzima has died after being hit by a motor vehicle when he was crossing the road at Akimu village along Kasungu – Mzimbs M1 road.
The accident occurred on September 11, 2022.
According to Kasungu Police public Relations Officer
Sub Inspector Joseph Kachikho, the accident which involved a Toyota fortuner registration BX 449 was being driven by Kasungu North legislator Mike Bango Chirwa from the direction of Chatoloma heading towards Nkhamenya.
Upon arrival at Akimu village the driver hit a pedestrian who was crossing from left to right side of the road.
Following the impact Mzima sustained severe head injuries and cervical spinal fracture and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Kaluluma health centre.
Police in the district are advising road users to adhere to all road traffic rules and regulations to avoid occurrences of preventable road accidents.
Mzima hailed from Akimu village, Traditional Authority Chisemphere in Kasungu.
