Humanitarian Youth centred organisation Young Achievers for Development-YAD has decorated Football Association of Malawi-FAM President Walter Nyamilandu with the Lifetime Achievement award in football.
At an event that took place in Blantyre over the weekend,the organisation said it was impressed with what Nyamilandu has achieved throughout his life in both as a player and an administrator.
‘You are the pride of our country for being the first Malawian in history to be elected onto the prestigious governing council of FIFA hence being decorated with this award’, said the organisation in the statement.
According to the statement,through his contribution in football Nyamilandu has earned the trust of many international bodies evidenced by his holding of senior positions in football related bodies across the world.
In his reaction to the award the FAM President said he was excited to be recognized for the role he is playing in football development in the country.
‘As much as it is important to celebrate what you have achieved,it is important to raise the bar beyond your new milestones so that you can be forever successful in life’, said the FAM President.
Apart from being FAM president Nyamilandu is also a Confederation of African Football-CAF Executive member a position which he just got elected at the recent CAF Congress.
He has also served as a FIFA Council member, Chairperson of the COSAFA marketing Committee, a member of the Africa Cup of Nations Organizing committee,a CAF Match Commissioner and Team and General Secretary for tnm Super League giants Mighty Mukuru Wanderers a team he once played for.
He is however yet to declare if he is going to contest at the forthcoming Football Association of Malawi elections slated for December this year.
If he is going to contest and get re-elected that will be his last term in office having served the Association for over 16 years.
