Minister of Labour Agnes NyaLonge has tipped youths who have graduated from Youth Vocational Skills trainings under TEVET to take a great role in transforming the country.
NyaLonje made the remarks on Tuesday at William Murray Secondary School Ground in Nkhoma, Lilongwe during the graduation of 478 youths from Malingunde Vocational Skills Centre, Bowe Technical College, Msaku Skills Vocational Centre and Nkhoma Complex Vocational Skills Centre.
“I am encouraging all those that have graduated today to go out and create jobs for themselves and others in their respective communities. If we want this country to be transformed, if we want to fulfill 2063 agenda, this is the way to go,” said NyaLonje.
Director of Operations for World Vision Malawi, Charles Chimombo said they are funding the project as part of youth empowerment.
“Unemployment is a big challenge for the youth so this is one way of empowering the youths to stand on their own” he said.
According to Chimombo, World Vision Malawi has used 500 Million Kwacha to fund the just ended cohort.
He further ensured the gathering of World Vision’s commitment to continue supporting the project.
One of the graduates, Brenda Faindan admitted that her life has already been transformed, few months after completing motorbike mechanics course.
The 478 graduates, comprised of 216 for 2023 cohort and 262 for 2024 cohort.
The project was funded by World Vision and Sanwecka duty was to provide trainings. There were also representatives from CCAP and Catholic churches whose duty was to identify trainees and provide resources while TEVET were the overseers of the project.
