Mzuzu City Council with financial support from government’s Infrastructure Development Fund (IDF), Thursday launched K97 million worth concrete deck bridge construction projects in Chibavi, Mchengautuba West, Mchengautuba East and Mzirawayingwe wards.
Speaking when he addressed four ward development committees, Director of Parks for the council, Yotamu Mtafya said the council decided to construct the bridges to address some of the mobility challenges which the city residents face.
He advised community members surrounding the projects’ construction sites and members of the general public to own the projects for their smooth implementation.
“There is need for coordination amongst different stakeholders such as block leaders, ward councilors, the councils Engineering Department and ward development committees among others to ensure successful implementation of the projects,” said Mtafya.
Mtafya then advised contractors who have been awarded the construction works to deliver value for money structures which can serve communities for long.
Managing Director of Mphamba Civil Works Construction Company which has been awarded two bridge construction projects, Haswell Mphamba assured the benefiting communities and the council as a client, that his company will deliver according to given specifications to ensure quality work.
One of the block leaders in Mchengautuba East Ward, Bobest Mshiko commended government through the council for the initiative which he said will go a long way in solving mobility and communication challenges in the city.
